Loft Bible

This collection demonstrates the immense variety of lofts in a wide range of buildings from all over the world. They have been converted with great ingenuity and imagination by a new breed of urban dwellers who have embraced the loft living idyll. Enthusiastically eclectic, importing ideas gathered from travel or reading, and using furniture from modern emporiums of design or found in junk shops, these loft dwellers have left the essential character and texture of their buildings intact while layering space in subtle ways so that volumetric grandeur is not lost. This tour gives the reader a glimpse of the inventiveness, vigor and pride employed in creating spectacular dwellings out of amorphous spaces. Loft Bible

Known primarily for her highly original furniture and interior design, Gray realized nine buildings in her lifetime and recorded more than forty-five architectural projects in her archive, although until recently several of her built projects were attributed solely to her collaborator, Romanian architect Jean Badovici.

Beginning in the mid-1920s, and influenced by the Modern Movement, she turned to architecture. Her most renowned project, the villa E. 1027 on the coast of southern France, interprets Corbusian spatial principles and forms and has become an important example of Modernist architecture.
